Philadelphia City Hall is both a historic, architecturally significant building and the functioning home of Philadelphia's city and county offices and courts. It is located at the intersection of Broad and Market Streets, in Center Square, the center of downtown Philadelphia.

Philadelphia City Hall occupies four and half acres, has more occupied square footage than the U.S. Capitol and its height of over 547 feet makes it the tallest masonry-bearing building in the world.

The building was designed by Scottish architect John McArthur, Jr., in the Second Empire style, and was constructed from 1871 until 1901 at a cost of $24 million. With close to 700 rooms, City Hall remains one of the largest municipal buildings in North America.
