Asset Searches & Recovery
Whether filing suit to recover property from a former business partner, seeking the return of funds misappropriated by corrupt government officials or trying to enforce a legal judgment awarding financial damages, locating and recovering concealed assets is a critical task.
Kroll is the world’s foremost expert in identifying, tracing and recovering assets.
Over our 40 year history, Kroll has devised effective strategies to identify assets held in real and intangible properties, offshore vehicles and multi-layered corporate holdings. With strict adherence to privacy and protection laws, Kroll’s investigators and forensic accountants follow complicated financial trails to trace assets hidden locally or in foreign jurisdictions, and unwind complex asset-hiding schemes. Identifying the location and value of hidden assets is a critical step in recovering assets in litigation, and in applying for appropriate legal relief.
Kroll has unparalleled experience in the field of asset search and recovery, including the multi-jurisdictional searches for assets hidden by the Philippines’ Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos, Haiti’s Jean Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier and Iraq’s Saddam Hussein.
Case Study: Investigating the Collapse of Parmalat Spa and the Missing Billions of Dollars
Kroll advised the Italian government-appointed special administrator in the investigation of the alleged misappropriation of assets worth up to €14 billion following the collapse of Parmalat. The investigation involved reviewing cash flows out of the business and tracing their ultimate destinations, many of which were in countries known for their lack of transparency in legal proceedings and financial transactions. Kroll also assisted in the preparation of claims against third-party global financial institutions, who were alleged to have put together complex debt financing instruments that disguised the true purpose of the loans. Kroll’s forensic accountants deconstructed many of these financial schemes.
