Case Study: King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, Saudi Arabia
Kroll was retained as part of the design team led by HOK Architects to provide security engineering services for the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia. Kroll’s role included the development and documentation of the security design criteria and construction documents for each element of the project, including the administrative, academic, community, and residential facilities. KAUST is intended to serve as one of the worlds’ premier post graduate schools of science, engineering and research.  This 5.5 million-square-foot LEED Platinum new construction project includes 2.1 million square feet of lab facilities, accompanied by housing, schools, recreational facilities, retailing and other services to support a community of up to 20,000 people.  The project was completed on an accelerated, 30-month start-to-finish schedule driven by the goals of its patron, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, to diversify the country’s economy.  KAUST was named R&D Magazine's 2011 Laboratory of the Year.

Case Study: Internal Revenue Service Kansas City Campus
Kroll was retained by MC Lioness Real Estate to provide security engineering services for the IRS processing center in Kansas City, MO. Kroll’s responsibilities included full-scope security planning, design, engineering, procurement assistance, and construction administration services.  Design challenges involved providing security to the five-level, 3,800 space, underground parking garage with high volume traffic flows and limited access points, as well as security zone partitioning to match the facilities flexibility and space utilization requirements, while maintaining the required GSA/ISC security criteria. The new construction project included the integration of a 660,000 square foot addition onto the adaptive reuse of the existing 475,000 square foot historical Main Post office building on 27.5 acres of land in downtown Kansas City.  As the home of nearly 3,000 full-time employees and up to 5,000 seasonal employees, the facility was designed to provide IRS workers with a comfortable and secure work environment with easy access to amenities.
